Thomas Hart Benton was a major American artist from Neosho, Missouri. His paintings are famous for showing ordinary people doing common things. He drew and painted portraits, landscapes, and scenes of people at work in farms, factories, and busy cities. His best-known works are public murals, or scenes on the inside walls of buildings. Benton’s murals are lively records of life in America from pioneer times onward.

George Caleb Bingham, Kansas City, MO An American realist painter, Bingham was known for his portraits of American frontier life. He came to Arrow Rock, MO as a boy, and worked in Boonville, MO as a cabinetmaker. He pursued his art career on the road, most notably known for Order No. 11, a painting depicting the cruelty of Gen. Thomas Ewing during the Civil War.

Charles Marion Russell's more than 3,000 paintings, drawings and sculptures captured the essence of the American West. Born in St. Louis, MO he grew up at Oak Hill, MO his family's country estate near present-day Tower Grove Park. Russell, who moved to Montana at age 15 to be a cowboy, was a professional artist by 1893. Within a decade he was nationally recognized for the accuracy with which he rendered his subjects. Russell was also an able storyteller, whom Will Rogers called the best he ever heard. One of the premier artists of the American West, Charles M. Russell lovingly preserved the rugged splendor of the frontier.

Long ago a young boy and his family moved to a small town in Missouri. Throughout his childhood he loved animals, and he loved to draw cartoon characters. This young boy developed this skill, and soon it became the center of his life. This skill brought about an empire known to all of the world. This young boy was Walt Disney. The Main Street at both Disney Land and Walt Disney World is based on his hometown of Marceline, Missouri. Throughout his life he produced hundreds of films in both animation and live action. He even created a television series that showcased the wild outdoors. He has made a great impact on the art history of Missouri.
